The family moved to Belnoe in the early 1940s because there appeared to be dry rot in the house. At this time my Grandparents took over the lease of Ardoch, Belnoe, the Manse and Dalfad and brought up a family and farmed there until they were in their 70s when they moved to Ballater.

During the Second World War children who were evacuated from Glasgow stayed with Maggie and Davie Fraser at Ardoch. There used to be a beautiful Gean (Wild Cherry) tree directly in front of Ardoch house. There was no running water in Ardoch but there used to be a pipe channeling spring water from the hill into a sink a few yards in front of the house on the brae. Tom and Mary Fraser lived at Ardoch before Maggie and Davie. Tom and Mary, my great Grandparents, moved to Ardoch from Tullochmacarrick. Ardoch had been home to a "succession of priests from 1810 until the focus of Catholic life moved down to Candacraig in 1866" (The Deeside Field, number 19, 1987).
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7493231.post-10143678947454152262019-07-13T03:19:11.519-04:002019-07-13T03:19:11.519-04:00My mum was born in Ardoch to Maggie and Davie Fras...My mum was born in Ardoch to Maggie and Davie Fraser.
