GameTap targets old video game nostalgia

Are you an old Dig Dug or Centipede fan? Or can't get enough of early Tom Clancy 3D games? Then you should check out GameTap, a new online service which lets users play faded videogame hits from yesteryear over the Internet -- for a fee, of course.

The service is operated by Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System and costs $15 per month. Using a broadband Web connection, an 800MHz or better processor, a gaming-friendly video card and a Windows 2000 or XP system with at least 256MB RAM, you can access a range of old or expired game titles. Atari 2600, Commodore 64, and Intellivision games are featured, as well as more recent Windows games. You can use a USB controller, or keyboard commands to play. While GameTap uses the Internet to download games, it has a dedicated client interface, rather than using a Web browser.
