Berkman Center: Censorship rears its ugly head

I attended a Berkman Center for Internet & Society luncheon today. I'd like to talk about it, but can't, as the speaker said everything he was saying was "off the record" (he knew there was a journalist in the room).

It was very odd. This wasn't a case of me buttonholing him in the parking lot. It was a talk at a university, and it was also simulcast over the Web, where anyone could see and write about it. Moreover, practically everyone in the crowd was an open-source supporter or activist, which by definition means they support open, unfettered discussions of technology. Nevertheless, I'll honor his request. My lips are sealed.

I recognized a few people in the room, including several people whom I had met at State of Play V in Singapore and Harvard Immersive Education Day. I also recognized several Harvard professors by reputation -- Jonathon Zittrain and Harry Lewis.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for other interesting Berkman events in the coming months. In addition to the regular luncheon series, there are also other events and seminars from time to time, according to the website.
