Jim Rapoza nixes 3-D in the office

3-D is Not for Me


eWeek columnist Jim Rapoza pans Sun's project Looking Glass, which aims to manage content and applications on a Java-based desktop. Even though he is a "hard-core" gamer, he believes that 3-D user interfaces do not have much of a place in an office environment, except for specialized industries such as architecture, CAD, and advertising. He says, "... for general computing tasks, is a 3-D interface really any more intuitive than a standard interface, especially when the current computing world still comes up short of the fully immersive virtual environment that's required to make 3-D interfaces work?"
